‍ ‍Meet Athena

Athena Montes

I ask a lot of questions for a living, which is probably why no conversation in my life ever stays on topic for very long.

Over the years, that curiosity has taken me through community organizing, recruiting, talent strategy, coaching, and advisory work. Somewhere along the way, I realized that while the titles and industries changed, the work I enjoyed most stayed remarkably consistent. I love helping people untangle complicated situations, connect ideas that don't seem obvious yet, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

One of the reasons I love working with creatives is that they're rarely bringing just one thing to the table. What begins as a conversation about a portfolio often turns into a conversation about confidence, leadership, business ideas, or the kind of work someone genuinely wants to build. Those conversations are my favorite because the work is rarely just about the deliverable. It's about understanding the person behind it and creating a strategy that reflects both where they are today and where they want to go.

That's the foundation of AJM Career Collective. Whether we're navigating a career transition, refining a portfolio, building a consulting practice, or thinking through a leadership challenge, my role is to ask thoughtful questions, offer perspective, and help make sense of opportunities that can feel overwhelming when you're trying to navigate them alone.

When I'm not working with clients, I'm usually planning a road trip, cooking for people I love, rearranging a room because I had an idea, spending time with my dog Phoenix, or reminding myself that being highly strategic and incredibly clumsy are not mutually exclusive traits.
